Ibiza’s nightlife
Ibiza’s nightlife is legendary. It’s been immortalised on the silver screen in films like Kevin & Perry Go Large (2000), Welcome 2 Ibiza (2003) and It’s All Gone Pete Tongue (2004), as well as on TV shows like Ibiza Uncovered (1998-). Those depictions aren’t always accurate by any means, but they do give some sense of the clubbing-fuelled hedonism of this sun-kissed Balearic paradise.
A typical day for a pleasure-seeking visitor in Ibiza might involve a few hours chilling at a beach bar, watching the magnificent sunset, grabbing something to eat and then heading into town for some drinks, banter, flirting and a maybe bit of dancing. After that, Ibiza’s legendary clubs await.
Amnesia, located near San Rafael, was the first major outdoor club in Ibiza. It was awarded Best Global Club at the International Dance Music Awards in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011. Ibiza’s other main clubs include DC10, located in a converted aircraft hangar, Eden, where Judge Jules plays every Sunday, Es Paradis, located on the San Antonio waterfront, Pacha, best known for house music, Privilege (the world’s largest nightclub), and Space, with its famous open-air dancefloor. Ibiza is also home to a long list of smaller venues, including the likes of Boho, Underground and KM5. The music played at each venue varies from one night to the next depending on which promoters they are working with.
Within Ibiza’s resorts, there are also numerous bars, which add another level to the atmosphere and vibe on the island. These venues are perfect for clubbers who want to warm up for the night ahead in a setting that’s more chilled out before braving the bone-shaking soundsystems and pulse-accelerating tunes in Ibiza’s super-clubs. These bars don’t usually charge for entry, and you tend to get more drinks for your money.
Another pillar of Ibiza’s party scene is the so-called ‘sunset strip’ – a series of cafes located along the Calo des Moro in San Antonio. You can’t visit the island without heading there and experiencing the laid-back bliss of watching the fading pink-hued glow of the sun over the Mediterranean. If you meet someone special, this is the place to make your move!
